In the years 1993–2001 - judge of the Constitutional Tribunal; in the years 2002–2012 - judge of the European Court of Human Rights.
Visiting professor at numerous foreign universities, including: Paris I (Sorbonne), Paul Cezanne (Aix-en-Provence), New York University, Yale University, University of Chicago, Washington University in Saint Louis, Tel Aviv University and Hong Kong University.
Author or editor of several hundred publications on constitutional law, constitutional judiciary and protection of human rights, including Commentary on the Polish Constitution of 1997 and Commentary on the European Convention on Human Rights.
